Majoring in Political Communication and Advocacy allows me to work both in a communication and political setting. I focus my skills and knowledge in communication to inform and bring awareness to different political issues. I tend to work and focus mostly on Immigration and Women’s rights. As a first-generation Latin, I understand the importance of working with nonprofit organizations that are located in low-income communities.
I have organized two big fundraisers with two different organizations; Dare To Dream Chicago and Monarcas BJCA. These organizations focus on providing resources and opportunities for DREAMers and Undocumented Students. Throughout these two major fundraisers, over $800 was raised. This money was given to a student (DREAMer and Undocumented student) as a scholarship.
The most recent event I hosted was Dare To Dream Chicago at Saint Xavier University. This event was focused to raise awareness of the resources available to DREAMers and Undocumented students at Saint Xavier University. I partnered with different organizations inside and outside and raised over $200. As mentioned previously, this money would be given to a student as a scholarship.
Although the work I do is focused on informing people about the different resources available to them. I also tend to do a lot of marketing for two different companies. With the knowledge of communication and knowing how to target the correct audience. I created a website that will be launched in May 2023. Besides creating the website, I am the social media coordinator for two companies. I create production videos and flyers promoting the company.
